Together with their family and friends, Stephanie and Stephane had a beautiful and personal wedding in the Billings Estate Museum gardens, which I had somehow never had a wedding at before.
We got really lucky with the weather as they were calling for 30mms of rain and we dodged that for their outdoor ceremony but were quickly ushered into the estate buildings as it intermittently rained from the receiving line to the end of our formal portraits when we headed to Confederation Park and finished at their reception venue, The Royal Airforce Mess on Gloucester.
The Billings Estate National Historic Site is the former home of one of the region’s earliest settlers.
The oldest wood framed house in Ottawa was built in 1827-9 by Massachusetts-born Braddish Billings. It became the home for the following four generations of the Billings family. It is Ottawa’s oldest surviving house, though the Bytown Museum building is older. Billings had moved to the area in 1812, and was the first settler in Gloucester Township.
